As any former inhabitant of Vault 76 will tell you, there’s no shortage of strange creatures in Fallout 76’s Appalachia. You’ve got the Scorched, the humble bloatfly, fearsome Alpha Deathclaw, and many others that are looking to take a bite out of you. But they’re all rather earthly foes, which is likely why the Winter 2021 Update will see Zetan aliens paying us a visit.
The first signs that Zetans could be coming to Fallout 76 was spotted when its 2021 roadmap was revealed. There’s a flying saucer that’s not particularly good at hiding, and a mention of the new Public Challenge event, named Invaders from Beyond.
By themselves, they only fueled speculation, but Bethesda has now confirmed that little green (yellow?) men are, indeed on the way.
“We’ve been talking (internally) about doing something fun with the Zetans since before we launched the game, so we are excited to finally have the chance to do something with them,” Design Director Mark Tucker said in a recent Q&A.
“We are working on a new feature we call Public Challenges that will be similar to Seasonal Events, but will be global to the World and encourage players to work together to succeed. We will showcase the Zetans in our first one and plan to add more in the future.”
Before Zetan aliens invade in the Winter 2021 update, Fallout 76 is set to receive S.P.E.C.I.A.L. loadouts, C.A.M.P. slots. mannequins, and more in the Locked & Loaded update. It is currently being tested on the PTS and slated to launch on April 27, likely along Season 4.
Fallout 76 is available now on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
