The road to announcing Far Cry 6’s release date wasn’t free of leaks for publisher and developer Ubisoft but we’re now in the final stretch and very close to facing off against another powerful villain. The latest entry in the long-running series sends us to the tropical paradise of Yara, where we’ll face off against dictator Antón Castillo, attempting to put an end to his reign.
When its release date comes around, Far Cry 6 will put players in the shoes of Dani Rojas, a determined fighter who sees waging a guerilla war as the sole way to remove Castillo from the picture. Aided by a handful of allies both human and animal – including an alligator with a love for denim – , she seeks to ignite the fires of revolution across the island.

The fact that you’re waging a guerilla war against those in power isn’t just a narrative mechanism, either. Far Cry 6 also reflects that in the arsenal that Dani can use. From CD-throwers that blast Macarena to makeshift rifles and miniguns, the weapons Dani can use are often made from spare parts. Just don’t let that question how deadly they are.
Aside from a friendly alligator that’ll happily chomp on your foes, Far Cry 6 will also introduce a third-person camera, allowing players to get a better look at the protagonist in cutscenes, and while inside Guerilla Camps. But when will we get to experience all that it has to offer?
Far Cry 6’s release date is currently slated for October 7, when it’s set to launch on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS5, Amazon Luna, and Google Stadia. The autumn/winter period is, once more, shaping up to be quite busy with big launches.

This is also the first main entry that comes out three years after its predecessor, instead of the usual four. Based on the footage shown so far, Far Cry 6 isn’t aiming for reinvention but does, nevertheless, change aspects of its popular formula while keeping things adequately over the top. Check it out in action in the video below.
