Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker promises to shake things up for the popular MMORPG when its release date occurs later this year. Aside from introducing new jobs and areas, Patch 6.0 also brings the title’s current story arc to a close before kicking off a brand new one.
Endwalker is the MMORPG’s fourth expansion to release since A Realm Reborn gave the MMORPG a new lease on life, aiming to continue publisher and developer Square Enix’s streak of great releases. Here is everything we know about Final Fantasy XIV, including details about its release date, story, jobs, new gameplay elements, and more coming in Patch 6.0.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Patch 6.0 Release Date
Square Enix initially gave the expansion a Fall 2021 window, only to reveal during 2021’s Fan Festival that FFXIV: Endwalker’s release date was slated for November 23, 2021.
In early November, the publisher announced that the expansion’s release date would be delayed by two weeks, until December 7. Early access, available to players who pre-order, now starts on December 3.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Story
FFXIV: Endwalker will bring the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story to its conclusion, however, the MMORPG will gradually move to a new story arc once the post-launch patches start rolling in. If you were worried this would be the last we’re seeing of the game, that does not seem to be the case with Patch 6.0.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Gameplay
As with every new expansion, there’s quite a bit to go through in terms of gameplay changes and additions in FFXIV’s Patch 6.0. For starters, FFXIV: Endwalker will raise the level cap to 90, meaning there’ll be 10 new levels to grind through. Players can expect new dungeons, the new, high-difficulty Pandæmonium, alongside the Myths of the Realm alliance raid series.
New beast tribes are also on the way, likely with associated reputation grinds in tow. Two of them have already been revealed as the Loporrits and the Arkasodara. You’ll also have plenty of new gear to chase alongside new crafting recipes. On a similar note, Island Sanctuary will give you the chance to try your hand at farming and raising animals in a new, solo-friendly and casual mode.
To name a few more changes, Ishgard will get its own residential quarter, which is really good news if you count among those affected by the in-game housing crisis. The Gold Saucer will receive some updates while belt equipment is going away.
Endwalker will also bring about a series of changes to existing jobs, which were explored in September’s Letter from the Producer 66. Some more notable ones include a rework for Summoner that removes the job’s damage-over-time effects spells while increasing its mobility alongside a more rewarding use of effective cooldowns if you play a tank.
Certain HQ (High Quality) items are also going away with Endwalker’s launch, in an effort to reduce inventory bloat. These include items obtained via botany, mining, and fishing (the professions will have attributes and actions that affect gathering yield adjusted), materials dropped by enemies and obtained via tomestone and scrip exchange, alongside certain non-craftable materials.
FFXIV: Endwalker also brings a clearer healer split between cure-based and barrier-based healers, while teleporting across the world will cost more the further away you want to go. Downscaling will also be introduced, to reducing gear attributes, HP, damage, and various other values across the board, to avoid them reaching too high numbers. Teleportation costs will also no longer be capped at 999 Gil, when Patch 6.0 goes live.
The FFXIV Patch 6.0 preliminary patch notes are now live, giving us a better look at the new content dropping on December 3 and which expansions are required to access it.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Jobs
Two new jobs (classes) will become available once Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker’s release date comes around. The Sage, a barrier healer, uses floating knife-like weapons called nouliths, being capable of healing allies by dealing damage to opponents, but also protecting them using barriers.
The new healer job can designate a target and have all the damage dealt by its abilities on global cooldown also heal said target.
The Reaper enters the fray as the newest melee DPS class in FFXIV’s Patch 6.0. Dressed in stylish, black attire, it relies on a large scythe and a void pet to slash opponents into pieces. Its Soul Gauge enables the use of new attacks while its Shroud Gauge lets it harness the power of its void pet (and look even more badass in the process).
FFXIV’s Reaper doesn’t have to deal with positional attacks as part of its main rotation combo, but will see some added to its void pet’s abilities.
Both new jobs added in FFXIV: Endwalker will be available starting with level 70.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Areas
A new expansion means new areas to explore and Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker won’t disappoint in this regard. We’ll be able to visit Labyrinthos, the tropical isle of Thavnair, the imperial capital of Garlemald, and Mare Lamentorum, located on the moon. Old Sharlayan will be the new player hub, and we’ll also get to see the city of Radz-at-Han.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Races
You’ve likely already seen Viera on your adventures across Eorzea, but, while they’re not a new race per see, FFXIV: Endwalker’s launch will add a male version, putting an end to their days of being gender-locked.
