Final Fantasy 16’s June release date is approaching rapidly, and there is a wealth of information to discover about this massive RPG from Square Enix.
Previous games in the series are known for their lengthy gameplay, with the director of the game, Hiroshi Nakai, stating that a full playthrough of the main campaign would take around 35 hours. Moreover, with the announcement of a New Game Plus feature for FF16, players can expect this time to double.
Does Final Fantasy 16 have a New Game Plus?
Yes, FF16 will have a new game + mode. In an interview with Gematsu alongside producer Naoki Yoshida and combat lead Ryota Suzuki, Takai mentions the game’s trickier NG+ mode called Final Fantasy mode. “This mode promises to be harder and bring out different enemies to fight.
”for New Game Plus we also have a third mode that we introduced called the Final Fantasy mode, which not only is more difficult, but also changes enemy placement and the enemies that you fight, so it’s a completely different experience,” Takai added.
This sounds like it will be perfect for gamers who appreciate a few unexpected twists. Not only that but there will be a stage replay option that “uploads your scores to the Global Leaderboard to see how your scores stack up against other players around the world” according to Takai. So even if you aren’t engaged by the game’s darker narrative, there will be plenty of replayability thanks to the game’s higher focus on actionised combat compared to previous Final Fantasy titles.
As spotted by Genki_JPN on Twitter, The Final Fantasy Mode also raises the level cap to 100, enables the crafting of the Ultima Weapon, and awards a Gold Trophy for completion on the PS5.
While the game will be long, don’t think of it as an open-world game like a lot of other titles from this year or even Final Fantasy 15. ”We didn’t go that route because we wanted this game that spanned many different nations and wanted to tell a detailed story that would not have been possible if we had an open-world situation” Naoki Yoshida, Final Fantasy 16’s producer, said.
Final Fantasy 16 will release exclusively for the PS5 on June 22nd, with a possible PC release down the road. While an official announcement hasn’t been made, other Square Enix exclusives (such as Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade) were made available for PC Gamers. We’ll make sure to notify you when we have a proper PC release date.
