Fortnite now features ray tracing and DLSS support, publisher and developer Epic Games announced today.
The popular battle royale allows players using DirectX 12 and the newer models of Nvidia GPUs to take advantage of the lifelike reflections and shadows that the technology enables across all modes.
To this effect, Fortnite’s latest update adds “improved ambient occlusion, shadows, reflections, and real-time global illumination”.
Fortnite Ray Tracing Support
Fortnite’s Nvidia DLSS support comes in three options – Quality, Balanced, and Performance – leading to higher frame rates when using ray tracing.
On top of that, Nvidia Reflex support has also been introduced.
“By integrating directly in Fortnite, Reflex Low Latency Mode aligns game engine work to complete just-in-time for rendering, eliminating the GPU render queue and reducing CPU back pressure in GPU intensive scenes.” explains the post announcing all these additions.
To turn on Fortnite’s ray tracing option, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve installed the Windows 10 May 2020 (or later) update and the R455 Driver.
Afterward, head into the Settings menu, select Advanced Settings and turn on DirectX 12. From there on, you’ll just need to manually turn on Ray Tracing and DLSS on as you would any other option.
Here are the Fortnite ray tracing system requirements:
