If you liked Two Point Hospital, but also wished it was even weirder and had a more distinct personality, then Brightrock Games’ Galacticare is the hospital sim you were looking for. After a solid launch back in May, it’s now getting a free Challenge Mode DLC too.
A common criticism among the most diehard players since launch was that Galacticare maybe lacked a bit more challenge, especially when every system and mechanic had been figured out in the late-game levels. Mind you, the recent hospital management sim will likely expand significantly in the future through more updates and possibly paid DLC that toys with its sci-fi setting, yet the devs have been quick to respond to the demands of a larger difficulty spike.
The ‘Challenge Mode’ DLC doesn’t have a set release date yet, but the game’s Steam page already lets players know that it’ll be offered at no extra cost, unlike the Supporter Pack that was released at launch. Moreover, the new difficulty mode won’t just add some more trouble for those asking for it; there are “shiny, golden trophies for the fraction of Directors who survive and succeed” too.
Among the many new details and features found in the DLC page, there are highlights such as:
- Mutated conditions with increased mortality rates and infectiousness.
- More patients than usual. Plus, they’ll be more disruptive and inconsiderate.
- Lower health bars for most patients, who deteriorate much faster too.
- Less income from treatments, and larger financial requirements for progression.
- More frequent disasters.
The devs underline this optional, free DLC has been designed for the players who didn’t find the vanilla experience nearly stressful enough, so make sure you master the regular scenarios before trying this alternative mode out.
Galacticare is now available on PS5, Xbox consoles, and PC (Steam and GOG). The ‘Challenge Mode’ DLC could come to non-Steam platforms at a later date, since the announcement has only been posted (for now) on Valve’s service.
