Gears 5 is a bit of a turning point for the popular franchise, and now we’ve just received some details on its season pass and loot box purchase options, in that there will be none of it at all.
According to sources, the upcoming Gears 5 will not feature a season pass of any kind, and players won’t be having to tackle loot boxes if they wish to get unique cosmetic items. Instead, we’ll get direct purchase options with no RNG whatsoever.
Alongside the crucial microtransaction information, we’ve also received a substantial batch of information regarding the other gameplay systems we’ll find in Gears 5. Here’s a complete list of all the details that have been revealed:
- universal weapon tuning
- 60Hz servers
- no gear packs
- no Season Pass
- direct purchases with no RNG
- exclusive earnable content
- free maps (matchmaking and private matches)
- recoil-based gunplay, hitmarkers, kill-cams
While most of this is pretty straight-forward, some players might be confused about universal weapon tuning. The explanation is that Gears 4 had different weapon damage models for PvE and PvP encounters, but this will not be the case with Gears 5.
With fast server tick-rates and updates, skill-based gunplay, and no community fragmentation thanks to free map releases, Gears 5 may well turn out to be the best game in the series yet. Stay tuned for more news as it’s revealed.
