We know from the recent 3.8 livestream that a new map, namely Fontaine, will be available in the game.

Genshin Impact 4.0 Fontaine Release Date
In a recent 3.8 Livestream, players had the chance to look at the previews of Fontaine, one of Tevyat’s seven nations. The word “Fontaine” itself means fountain in French, referring to the Hydro-centered location and the Hydro Archon of this region that will likely appear at some point in the game.
At the moment, it’s unclear when the 4.0 update will be dropping into the game. However, looking at previous updates, which generally have a 42-day interval, it is possible that the update is set to release on August 16, 2023.
New Diving Mechanic in Fontaine
As shown in the teaser, Fontaine is a modern city which features underwater exploration, something many players in the community have been looking forward to. Similar to how you would rise in the air, this, too, introduces an all-new mechanic into the game.
According to a leak, instead of relying on the regular swimming stamina bar that causes your character to drown if you overuse it, this mechanic uses a new kind of stamina that can be recharged when standing still in the water. This means you can explore underwater locations longer as you won’t have to rise back to the surface to recharge it.
Another exciting thing is that, based on the teaser, it seems like there will also be underwater combat, judging from the ability to use a set of attacks underwater and the appearance of a bubble that wraps your character - almost like a shield.
Genshin Impact 4.0 Fontaine Banners
In the 4.0 update, HoYoverse will be dropping three new Fontaine characters, which are as follows:
- Lynette - 4 Star, Sword user
- Lyney - 5 Star, Bow user
- Freminet - 4 Star, Claymore user
Other than that, two new artifact sets are coming to the game: Golden Troup and Marechaussee Hunter. These are based on the theme of Fontaine and will likely go with the upcoming characters. Now that you know everything the 4.0 update offers, will you be spending your Primogems this time?
