Abbey Games announced its upcoming god game Godhood back in July and development is, seemingly, moving along nicely. The developer announced today that the game is now in Alpha, celebrating the announcement with a gameplay trailer.
Godhood sports a colorful, cartoonish visual style, not unlike the studio’s other god game, Reus. The trailer shows a handful of follower communities going about their day, prior to shifting towards the title’s take on combat later on.
Godhood handles combat a bit differently than its peers. Instead of traditional engagements, whether on or off screen, rival gods settle their disputes in Sacraments, ritual battles where “disciples will need to prove their faith through the use of awe, persuasion or brute force”.
Taking the role of a deity, players will be able to design their own religion, experimenting with different dogmas and choosing both virtue and vice. Although gods have their fair share of power, followers still retain a certain amount of free will. That means players won’t have complete control over their followers, which is bound to create some interesting scenarios.
Although the base game is already fully funded, Abbey Games has announced that Godhood will take to Kickstarter early next year “for the inclusion of additional content in game”. Godhood is currently aiming for a 2019 release. Those eager to help the developer with feedback can sign up for the Godhood alpha</b>.
