Polish developer Covenant today announced Slavic folklore-inspired strategy adventure game Gord as its debut title. Founded by former CD Projekt Red and 11 bit studios producer Stan Just, the studio aims to bring forward a blend of city building, adventure, and survival elements with its first project, which is set to come out on PC next year.
Gord sees you leading the people of the Tribe of Dawn, ensuring their survival in its brutal, dark fantasy world. If the darker color palette doesn’t drive that point home, the gruesome creatures, blood, and dismemberment featured in its reveal trailer, which you can watch below, surely will.
A tribe needs a home and you’ll be the one overseeing the construction of a settlement, placing down necessary structures and palisades for protection. Should you survive among enemy tribes, the aforementioned monsters, and other “mysterious forces”, you can see it grow into a veritable fortress.
Gord’s AI-driven quest system ensures that side quests and random encounters stay varied while turning your people from hunted to hunters, as they set off to slay legendary creatures or learn more about the Ancients. Alongside more traditional weapons like axes and bows, magic is also present in Gord in the shape of both offensive and defensive spells.
Aside from keeping your people alive, you’ll also need to look after their mental state. Illness, hunger, and the death of their friends play into the Sanity and Burden systems, which can cause tribesmen to lose faith in your efforts and choose desertion instead.
You can learn more about Gord on Steam, where you can also keep track of it by following and wishlisting ahead of its planned 2022 PC launch.
