As you work your way through Half-Life: Alyx’s second chapter, The Quarantine Zone, you’ll bump into a button puzzle whose solution won’t be obvious without knowing where to look for it.
Being stuck at a button puzzle in the second chapter isn’t ideal if you’ve braved the thirteen-year wait leading up to Half-Life: Alyx, so our guide is here to help you more easily find the solution.
Half-Life: Alyx Button Puzzle Solution
You’ll know you’ve reached Half-Life: Alyx’s button puzzle when your path is blocked by a yellow gate that’s connected to a box with a 4x4 button grid. As you can probably guess, in order to open the gate you need to push the right buttons.
On your path to the area with the puzzle, you’ll reach an area where a strange green light will make nearby cardboard levitate and form a floating eye. Keep this in mind.
To the right of the box with the buttons, you’ll spot a dimly lit area. Upon entering it, you’ll spot strange drawings on the walls that depict 4x4 button grids inside a square. If your intuition tells you that one of them has the solution, you’re right.
In the center of the area, you should spot a cage with cardboard inside. Open it and the cardboard will begin floating but without forming an eye right away.
To uncover the button puzzle solution, you need to climb the ramp onto the elevated structure adjacent to the cage. From there, you can position yourself in such a way that the cardboard forms an eye looking at the exact buttons which you need to press.
If, however, you’d rather now go through the entire process, the Half-Life: Alyx button puzzle solution requires you to press the following two buttons:
- Third button from the left on the top row
- Second button from the left on the bottom row.
Doing so will lift the yellow gate and allow you to progress further.
Half-Life: Alyx is available now on the Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Here’s how many chapters you can expect in Valve’s latest effort.
