It's been a long time since we've seen one of the mainline Halo games on PC, and ever since Microsoft announced it would be bringing all its Xbox games to PC fans had hoped to see a Halo Master Chief Collection PC version. While we're expecting an announcement this weekend, March 15-17, but now a weird Halo Surface Hub listing may point towards that reveal. Or it's just weird.
The Halo MCC PC release has been talked about for a while, and now a weird listing on Microsoft's own website suggests that something is coming to Halo Master Chief Collection soon - hopefully PC related.
On the Microsoft Store listing for the Halo MC Collection Digital Bundle, a weird update just got posted. There's been an addition under the section 'available on', where apparently the game is on Xbox One... and Surface Hub. Hub is a system for Microsoft Surface tablets for use in teaching or offices, so we can't imagine why it would need Halo.
However, Surface Hub is based on Windows 10, so this listing could just be a neat little placeholder before its replaced with an actual PC via Windows 10 icon. It could be a mistake, but Microsoft simply replied "We do not comment on rumours or speculation" - and this isn't a rumour, it's a listing on their own store!
It's also weird timing, since the evidence is pointing to a reveal of the Halo Master Chief Collection PC version on March 15-17 at the SXSW festival. The most recent piece of evidence is that tech journalist Brad Sams posted a video where he states that "Microsoft’s open secret is that they have been working on the Master Chief Collection for the PC, and I’m hearing that it is getting close to release". While this is only a rumour, Sams has a pretty good track record when it comes to Microsoft.
This was slightly backed up (if you can call it that) by this post on the Halo subreddit, in which user thewombinthesky cheekily says "I will buy the first 343 employee that comments on this pizza if MCC for PC gets announced during the special announcement this month." It got a reply nearly immediately, from 343 employee ske7ch343, who commented "What kind of pizza are we talking about?" and followed it up with noting that it's "free pizza!".
That could all be for fun, except the "special announcement" this month has already been confirmed for the SXSW Festival between March 15-17 by Halo developer 343 Industries. They'll have a number of things to share, including most importantly "some exciting MCC news during the show. Does the eyes emoji work on Waypoint?" (it does).
It's been a long path to getting the Master Chief Collection on PC, which will catch us up to Halo 4 at the least. With Halo Infinite announced for PC, that'll only leave Halo 5 Guardians missing on PC. We can imagine that'll come soon too. It'd be a shame to not allow us to finish the fight. Hopefully this weird Surface Hub listing leads to something a lot bigger.
