After the announcement of the Halo: Master Chief Collection coming to PC at long last, PC Halo fans have been waiting and hoping for a release date which hasn't come yet - however, the Halo Insider Early Access program will have a Halo: Reach beta testing start date soon... but not so soon on PC.
Developer 343 has revealed that the Halo: Reach beta will start "in a matter of weeks", but only on Xbox One. The Halo: Reach PC beta, on the other hand, is a bit further off. They do have a reason why, however.
The latest Halo Insider update this week confirms that the teams are hard at work at the "flighting" build (beta) of Halo: Reach, and that "we're tracking towards kicking off the FIRST flight, on Xbox One, in a matter of weeks". They "don't expect a particularly big gap in time" between the Xbox One and PC betas of Halo: Reach, at least, and explained the reasoning.
"This is simply due to the fact that the console version is a bit further along than the PC version and will be ready to flight sooner. PC, as you can imagine, is a different beast, and we want to ensure that the first flight has adequate PC-specific UI in place, which takes time. We don't expect a particularly big gap in time but we are going to flight on Xbox One first (possibly even another flight on there too, depending on timing) before Halo: Reach PC flighting begins."
The good news is that it's looking likely that the entire Halo Master Chief Collection will release on PC in 2019, so the gap between beta testing and release may not be that big at all. We can only hope. We've waited long enough to finish this fight.
