Star Wars Outlaws is finally here. By and large, Ubisoft Massive’s newest open-world adventure is a blast with so much to do across the alien worlds you’ll visit. However, you might be interested in optimizing the pace at which you earn credits, as much of Kay Vess and her vehicles’ progression depends on how full her pockets are.
Of course, beelining the main quests, finding hidden caches, raiding enemy bases, and taking on secondary missions may seem like the quickest way to earn money, but that’s not entirely true. While the payout is generally great, those activities usually take a while to complete.
If you’re looking to get rich faster and improve your abilities and equipment before advancing any further, we highly recommend paying attention to smaller activities and developing habits that take very little time and pay better than you’d expect once they pile up.
How to earn money fast in Star Wars Outlaws
Regularly check the Trailblazer’s delivery crate:
The first few hours of Star Wars Outlaws throws a lot of information at you, and Kay’s ship and base of operations, the Trailblazer, is at the center of many systems. There’s, however, one bit of information that might go unnoticed: there’s a delivery crate near the back ramp (left if you’re coming out of the ship) where you can pick up not only your pre-order/special edition bonuses but also drops of credits and new equipment every now and then.
Characters regularly bring this up, but only as passing comments, and chances are you might get stuck in a loop of completing missions and activities and ignore the crate for too long. It not only gives you some nice upgrades; those money drops are usually quite juicy, especially the ones from crime syndicates.
Bet on rigged fathier races
Fathier races are available in almost every cantina or seedy location you come across, but betting on them isn’t a sure way to make money. That said, you should keep an eye out for PDAs and notes that let you know if a race is fixed. The moment you find one (they’re quite common), go to the betting table as soon as possible and enjoy the free payout.
Don’t forget to sell your valuables
This might sound even more basic than our other recommendations, but it’s easy to lose track of everything else while jumping from one contract/mission to the next. You may be visiting merchants and mechanics regularly to get new upgrades and items, but don’t forget to sell all your junk as well.
Many of the random loot you come across is valuable and serves no other purpose than to be sold; in fact, you can just hold-press a single button and sell all the valuable items without losing the stuff that you need to save for upgrades. Of course, you can make extra money from crafting parts, but that would be counter-productive and generally isn’t worth it.
Get better at slicing
The Wordle-like slicing mechanic is very prominent in this game and hard to mess up. However, you’ll soon notice the credit rewards are lower the longer you take to figure each ‘puzzle’ out. In fact, if you’re terrible at it, you’ll get no extra rewards at all.
Since this is a pretty easy mechanic even in the late game, our recommendation is to slow down and try to complete each puzzle in as few ‘turns’ as possible. Unless the situation demands you to be fast, there’s no good reason to rush through them; get those extra credits. Of course, learning more slicing tricks from the expert, Aila will make the entire mechanic even easier and more useful.
Focus on the easy contracts
Past a certain point, you’ll be able to get random contracts from NPCs and computers in each world you visit. These activities are directly tied to the syndicate/reputation system and range from simple delivery activities to infiltrating heavily guarded outposts.
Our recommendation, at least until you’re better equipped and have more experience, is to focus on the easier contracts that pay less. Why? The ‘hard’ ones paying as much as 1k credits might look enticing, but you only have one shot at them, and they’re typically way more involved. While they’re far better playable content, if you’re looking to make money pronto, you’re better off doing two easier ones instead. Moreover, you can’t completely fail those.
Don’t ignore random Imperial and pirate events
Among all the random NPC interactions you’ll come across while traversing the three more open maps of Star Wars Outlaws, Imperial supply drops and pirate attacks (as well as other variants) are opportunities you shouldn’t ignore. They typically ‘pop up’ as you traverse the maps, are close by, and don’t take much time to complete.
More importantly, we’ve noticed these events are by far one of the most effective activities in all of Star Wars Outlaws. The payouts seem to be random, but we can safely say they’re rarely bad. For example: spending two minutes saving a bunch of farmers on Tatooine from a pirate attack gave me 1,200 credits. This often feels so busted that we wouldn’t be surprised if the rewards get nerfed in upcoming patches.
