Sometimes games just aren’t what you expect, launch broken or choose to bear a grudge against your PC, pushing you towards asking for a Steam refund. It’s unfortunate but, thankfully, Valve has implemented this consumer-friendly feature into its storefront.
But how exactly do you go about it? Here’s everything you need to know about how to refund Steam games.
How to Refund Steam Games
The first step towards refunding any Steam game is heading to the Steam Help page and logging in using your Steam account credentials.
After you’ve logged in, you should see a list of potential choices, as depicted in the image at the top of this article. Select Purchases and you should see a list of items you’ve bought in the past six months.
If the game you want to request a Steam refund for is missing from this list, it’s no longer eligible for one and you’re, unfortunately, stuck with it.
After you’ve selected the game, you’ll encounter a page similar to that in the smaller image above and on the left (click to enlarge). Select the I would like a refund option.
This moves you to a separate page that highlights the game you’re looking to refund on top, while giving you the option of receiving help with gameplay or technical issues, or requesting a refund.
Selecting I’d like to request a refund loads a form just beneath it. From the drop-down menu, select your preferred refund method.
The page should then look similar to the one in the smaller image above and on the right side. Select a reason for your refund and follow it by writing any other relevant detail behind your request in the Notes section, then click Submit request.
You should receive a confirmation email after which Steam staff will go over your refund request and determine whether you’re eligible or not.
To sum the steps of getting a Steam Refund:
- Visit the Steam Help webpage and log in using your Steam account credentials.
- Select Purchases from the list.
- Select the game you want refunded.
