Humankind has had a “good start”, said SEGA’s CEO, Haruki Satomi, in a Q&A session with analysts and investors as it reports on its fiscal results for Q2 2021.
Humankind’s launch day player count earned it a spot amongst Steam’s most played games, even overtaking Civilization 6’s player count for a time.
Could Humankind 2 be on the cards?
The future seems bright for the Humankind IP, as Satomi also commented on what’s next for the franchise.
“It was a good start so that we can expect to make this a series in the future.” said Satomi. “We find potential in this title, and it has become an IP we want to nurture for a long time.
We felt in our review that Humankind hit “several sweet spots” and that “4X strategy fans looking for a different spin on the subgenre’s formula should definitely consider trying out”.
While it’s good news to hear that the Humankind IP is likely to expand in the future, it’ll probably be a long time before we see Humankind 2, which is just as well as there’s still a lot of content to come for Humankind. It’s available on Game Pass if you haven’t checked it out yet.
