Icarus’ progression system ensures that each step you take towards building a shelter, charting the planet, and surviving its dangers is rewarded with experience that later gets converted into points. Keeping track of the game’s max level is a good idea if you’re looking to maximize your chances of avoiding death as its level cap determines how far you can stretch across the game’s different skill trees.
Icarus max level is the main limiter in this respect, and one reason to consider what type of build you’re going for early on, especially if you’re playing alone.
As you level up, you’ll be able to spend points across your Talent and Blueprint trees, both making your character stronger and unlocking new craftable items. While you do get a couple of bonus points along the way, you’re generally looking at one talent point and three blueprint points per level.
At launch, Icarus’ max level is 60, as confirmed by a developer responding to one of the game’s more critical Steam reviews. You’ll be able to unlock the fourth tier of blueprints upon reaching level 30.
Although reaching Icarus’ level cap does take a while, it’s worth keeping in mind that both talent and blueprint points seem to stop being awarded when you reach level 40.
This encourages specializing, which can work quite well in co-op where each party member can take on a different role, and can also translate to a higher degree of replayability in the game’s online mode.
Players who’re going at it on their own can tap into the dedicated Solo talent tree, but they will have to more carefully think about how they spend their points.
That’s what we know about Icarus max level at launch. It’s possible that the level cap or the number of points given per level might change over time, as the team behind the game goes over player feedback.
At the moment, these are the numbers you’ll have to work with. Icarus is available now on PC.
