Naughty Dog’s brand new IP has been revealed, but when will Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet be released on PC?
After years of working on Uncharted and The Last of Us, Naughty Dog has finally unveiled a new IP. Treasure hunting and post-apocalyptic survival are out, and now it’s space adventures ahoy in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
The new game, revealed at The Game Awards 2024, gave us our first look at bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun. She is stranded on the remote planet Sempira as she searches for a spacefaring crime syndicate.
Nobody has left Sempira’s orbit in over 600 years, and if Jordan is to survive, she’ll have to find a way to break that disturbingly long streak.
Naturally, it will be a console exclusive for PS5, but PC players will undoubtedly be hopeful of a port, too.
When is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet releasing on PC?
GameWatcher’s estimated release date for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet on PC: 2027
At this moment, Intergalactic: The Heretic Project has no PC release date. The trailer didn’t give us a PS5 release date, suggesting we’re probably more than a year away, so don’t expect a PC release for a good while yet.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet began production in 2020 and will be the first Naughty Dog game made specifically for PS5.
Check out the announcement trailer below.
Over the past four years, remastered versions of The Last of Us, its sequel, Uncharted 4, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy have been released on PS5, so the developer has had plenty of experience with the hardware already.
Naughty Dog is known for pushing the technical limits of Sony’s consoles, so Intergalactic: The Heretic Project will likely be a test for high-end PCs down the road.
In keeping with the game’s retrofuture feel, it will be scored by Nine Inch Nails’s Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. “Our incredible voyage into the cosmos also needs an equally incredible soundtrack,” Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog wrote about the partnership. “As tremendous fans of their work, I’m excited to announce our collaboration with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross who’ll be scoring Intergalactic! The guys are cooking, and the trailer is just a small tease of their work for the game.”
In an interview from May 2023 with Famitsu, translated by ResetEra, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan suggested that, while PC ports remain part of the company’s strategy, they may continue to launch years after the PS5 versions.
“We also fully understand the importance of PS5 exclusive titles. As I mentioned earlier, PlayStation Studios’ main responsibility is to have people enjoy the game experience using the latest PS. We are increasing the number of PS5-exclusive titles and staggering the release of the PC version,” Ryan said.
“I often have the opportunity to ask game fans for their opinions, and when I ask them about the time lag, they say that selling the PC version two or three years after the release of the PS version is accepted favorably.”
