It’s been 40 years since John Carpenter blessed the world with a sci-fi horror classic in The Thing, and 20 years since there was a video game adaptation. With more and more horror licenses getting the game treatment from Creepshow to Killer Klowns From Outer Space, surely it can’t be long until we get an official game of The Thing once more?
In the meantime, the indie space provides a taste of that. Stefano Cagnani, aka Steven Games Studios, has put out a first-person playable teaser based on The Thing, and it certainly is a tease of the film’s brooding atmosphere.
The teaser takes a brief tour of Outpost 31 and its dog kennels where you probably know what you’ll find.
Cagnani has previously released film adaptations of video games, having also made small projects based on Halloween, Wrong Turn, and Dune. You can play them all on itch.io.
