Frontier Developments, owner of PC-centric titles such as Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster, Elite Dangerous, and the recently released Jurassic World Evolution 2 has given an update on the financial progress of its games for the current financial year, and while there are positives to be found, there’s some moderate disappointment as well.
Jurassic World Evolution 2 has managed to do a bit of both.
Frontier has revealed around half a million players are making their own dino parks across all formats since the game’s November 9 launch, although sales on PC have been slower than the Cambridge developer and publisher had hoped, but cites a packed launch window as a possible cause, and It still expects the game to surpass the original.
Giving Frontier hope is the fact the Christmas season is almost upon us, and Jurassic World Evolution 2 is on some 440,000 Steam wishlists at present.
Frontier is also betting on the release of Jurassic World Dominion; the sixth film in the Jurassic Park/World series in June 2022 to have a significant impact on future sales, leading to a strong first year. Despite those PC concerns, the game is set to be Frontier’s most successful game of the year.
Elsewhere, the original Jurassic World Evolution, Planet Coaster and Zoo, are all continuing to perform, while Elite Dangerous: Odyessy is struggling to gain a foothold by comparison.
Overall the outlook is good for Frontier, and the future release of an F1 management game, FAR: Changing Tides, and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar are among those on the company’s upcoming slate.
CEO and founder of Frontier, David Braben, was full of praise and positivity in a statement regarding Jurassic World Evolution 2’s sales and the wider business, saying,
“A massive thank you to everyone involved with the launch of Jurassic World Evolution 2. Whilst initial sales on PC have been lower than we targeted, the game is already being enjoyed by around half a million players across all platforms, and showing very strong critical and player reviews. We are confident that it’s another terrific addition to our great portfolio of games. Frontier’s future looks strong and our portfolio continues to grow.”
Jurassic World Evolution 2 is out now on Steam.
