After announcing co-op first-person shooter Killing Floor 3 during Gamescom 2023’s Opening Night Live event, publisher and developer Tripwire Interactive has now shared a video discussing the body horror inspirations of its gruesome announcement trailer.
Set in the near future and having a heavy dose of dystopia baked into its world, Killing Floor 3 is “a little bit darker, a little bit more serious, a little bit more intense,” according to Creative Director Bryan Wynia.
The team behind the game went with a new concept for the iconic Fleshpound monsters that players face, aiming for “something that had a sense of body horror” but without any empathy attached to it, given how it is an “designed, biomechanical killing machine.”
In the video embedded below, Wynia and members of Hydra Studios go into more detail about their approach when making the sequel’s announcement trailer.
Although the developer has yet to extensively talk about how the title actually plays, we do know that it puts us in the role of a Nightfall specialist.
Able to join up to five other players, we’ll get to “battle waves of zeds, earn dosh, unlock skills, and build the ultimate arsenal,” when the title launches.
Killing Floor 3 is currently in development for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, but there’s no word on when it might come out. It does, however, have a Steam page, where you can follow and wishlist it.
