Here’s where we’ll explain everything that’s changing and being added with League of Legends Patch 12.17.
LoL patch 12.17 is now available on live servers. A look at its patch notes reveals its release date alongside the addition of new, futuristic Zenith Games skins, and more.
Riot Games pushes out regular updates for its popular MOBA, and having a patch schedule nearby is necessary to keep track of when the next one’s due out. The LoL patch 12.17 release date was set for Thursday, September 8, which is when the changes that make it through testing hit live servers.
League of Legends Patch 12.17
On the PBE, players could try out the following 4 new skins: King Viego, Zenith Games Blitzcrank, Zenith Games Jayce, and Zenith Games Lee Sin.
The LoL 12.17 maintenance schedule is always revealed closer to launch. Usually, it takes about 3 hours for patches to be deployed across different regions. Checking our League of Legends Server Status article is a good way to keep yourself informed on server downtime caused by patch deployment or other reasons.
League 12.17’s first PBE changes target everyone’s favorite sentient tree champ, Maokai, who’s set to receive some buffs, adjustments, and new effects across multiple skills.
Items such as Zhonya’s Hourglass and Seeker’s Armguards are also set to receive changes.
Hecarim and Miss Fortune are also getting their fair share of adjustments in League 12.17.
In addition we now also have the full patch preview, revealing a detailed list of changes that are likely to make it to live servers when League of Legends patch 12.17 finally becomes available to all players.
LoL 12.17 Champion Balance Changes
Ahri - Nerfed
Charm (E):
- Charm duration decreased to 1.2/1.4/1.6/1.8/2 seconds from 1.4/1.55/1.7/1.85/2 seconds
Azir - Nerfed
Arise! (W):
- Sand soldier damage decreased to 50-150 (based on level) (+55% AP) from 50-150 (based on level) (+60% AP)
- Cooldown increased to 9/8.25/7.5/6.75/6 seconds from 8/7.5/7/6.5/6 seconds</ul>
Shifting Sands (E):
- Cooldown increased to 22/20.5/19/17.5/16 seconds from 119/18/17/16/15 seconds
Camille - Buffed
Adaptive Defenses (Passive):
- Percent HP shielded increased to 20% from 17%
Hookshot (E):
- Damage increased to 80/110/140/170/200 (+90% bonus AD) from 60/95/130/165/200 (+75% bonus AD)
Ezreal - Buffed
Arcane Shift (E):
- Cooldown decreased to 26/23/20/17/14 seconds from 28/25/22/19/16 seconds
Graves - Changed
End of the Line (Q):
- Cooldown changed to 13/11.5/10/8.5/7 seconds from 12/11/10/9/8 seconds
Collateral Damage (R):
- Damage increased to 275/425/575 (+150% bonus AD) from 250/400/550 (+150% bonus AD)
Hecarim - Changed
Stats:
- Health growth decreased to 99 from 104
- Base armor decreased to 32 from 35
Rampage (Q):
- Damage decreased to 60/85/110/135/160 (+95% bonus AD) from 60/90/120/150/180 (+90% bonus AD)
- Damage per stack increased to 4% (+6% per 100 bonus AD) from 2% (+3% per 100 bonus AD)
- Cooldown per stack decreased to 0.75 seconds from 1 seconds
- Max stacks increased to 3 from 2
- Stack falloff changed to 1 stack per second at the end of the duration from all at the end of the duration
- Mana Cost changed to 30 from 28/31/34/37/40
Spirit of Dread (W):
- New: Hecarim gains 15/20/25/30/35 Armor and Magic Resist while Spirit of Dread is active
- Cooldown increased to 16/15.5/15/14.5/14 seconds from 14 seconds
Devastating Charge (E):
- Minimum damage decreased to 30/45/60/75/90 (+50% bonus AD) from 30/45/60/75/90 (+55% bonus AD)
- Max damage decreased to 60/90/120/150/180 (+100% bonus AD) from 60/90/120/150/180 (+110% bonus AD)
- Minimum knockback decreased to 150 from 250
- Maximum knockback decreased to 350 from 450
- Cooldown increased to 18 seconds at all ranks from 20/19/18/17/16 seconds
Onslaught of Shadows (R):
- Fear duration decreased to 0.75-1.5 seconds based on distance traveled from 0.75-2 seconds based on distance traveled
Kassadin - Buffed
Null Sphere (Q):
- Cooldown decreased to 10/9.5/9/8.5/8 seconds from 11/10.5/10/9.5/9 seconds
- Mana cost decreased to 60/65/70/75/80 from 70/75/80/85/90
Maokai - Changed
Sap Magic (Passive):
- New: Getting hit by large jungle monsters now reduces Sap Magic’s cooldown by 1.5 seconds per attack received
- Healing decreased to 4-34 (+4.8-14% Max Health) (levels 1-17) from 5-45 (+4.5-11% Max Health) (levels 1-15)</ul>
Bramble Smash (Q):
- Damage decreased to 65/110/155/200/245 (+40% AP) from 70/110/150/190/230 (+40% AP)
- New: Now deals percent maximum health damage (2/2.25/2.5/2.75/3%)
- New: Now deals 40/60/80/100/120 bonus damage to monsters
Sapling Toss (E):
- Saplings no longer deal maximum percent health damage
- Base damage total increased to 55/80/105/130/155 (+42.5% AP +6% bonus HP) from 20/45/70/95/120 (+7/7.25/7.5/7.75/8% (+70% per 100 AP) target maximum Health)
- Empowered brush damage total increased to 110/160/210/260/310 (+85% AP +12% bonus HP) from 40/90/140/190/240 (+14/14.5/15/15.5/16% (+1.4% per 100 AP) target maximum Health)
- New: Minions no longer take empowered brush damage from Saplings.
- Mana cost decreased to 45/55/65/75/85 from 60/70/80/90/100
- Slow amount increased to 45% from 35%
- New: Empowered brush slow amount now 45% (+2% per 100 AP) (6% per 1000 bonus HP)
Nature's Grasp (R):
- Missile initial speed increased to 100 from 50
- Missile max speed increased to 750 from 650
- Missile acceleration increased to 300 from 250
- New: Maokai now gains 40/50/60% Bonus Move Speed that decays over 2 seconds upon hitting enemy champions.
Miss Fortune - Changed
Double Up (Q) :
- Damage increased to 20/45/70/95/120 (+100% AD) (+35% AP) from 20/40/60/80/100 (+100% AD) (+35% AP)
- Cast Time changed to now matches basic attack time from 0.25 seconds
Strut (W):
- Mana cost decreased to 35 from 45
- Attack Speed increased to 50/65/80/95/110% from 40/55/70/85/100%
Make It Rain (E):
- Cooldown increased to 18/17/16/15/14 seconds from 18/16/14/12/10 seconds
- Full damage (8-ticks) changed to 70/100/130/160/190 (+100% AP) from 80/115/150/185/220 (+80% AP)
- Slow changed to 50% (+4% per 100 AP) from 40/45/50/55/60%
Nami - Changed
Tidecaller's Blessing (E):
- Removed an interaction where each application of Nami’s E would count towards procing Electrocute. E (and its applications) will now only count as a single spell cast for effects such as Electrocute.
Nocturne - Buffed
Stats:
- Attack speed ratio increased to 0.721 from 0.668
Umbra Blades (Passive):
- Cooldown decreased to 13 seconds from 14 seconds
Rell - Changed
Ferromancy (W):
- Dismounted move speed increased to 280 from 250
Attract and Repel (E):
- Cooldown changed to 13 seconds from 18/16.25/14.5/12.75/11 seconds
Renekton - Changed
Cull the Meek (Q):
- Base damage decreased to 60/90/120/150/180 (+100% bonus AD) from 65/100/135/170/205 (+80% bonus AD)
- Furious damage decreased to 90/135/180/225/270 (+140% bonus AD) from 100/150/200/250/300 (+120% bonus AD)
Sett - Buffed
Haymaker (W):
- AD ratio increased to 25% per 100 AD from 20% per 100 AD
Facebreaker (E):
- Slow increased to 70% from 50%
Sivir - Nerfed
Stats:
- AD growth decreased to 2.8 from 3
Ricochet (W):
- AD ratio decreased to 25/30/25/40/45% from 30/35/40/45/50%
Sylas - Nerfed
Stats:
- Base HP decreased to 575 from 595
Chain Lash (Q):
- Cooldown increased to 11/10/9/8/7 seconds from 10/9/8/7/6 seconds
Taric - Nerfed

- Base MR decreased to 28 from 32
Dazzle (E):
- Cooldown increased to 16/15/14/13/12 seconds from 15/14/13/12/11 seconds
Trundle - Nerfed
Frozen Domain (W):
- Cooldown increased to 18/17/16/15/14 seconds from 15/14/13/12/11 seconds
Twisted Fate - Buffed
Wild Cards (Q):
- AP ratio increased to 80% from 70%
Pick a Card (W):
- Mana cost decreased to 30/40/50/60/70 from 40/55/70/85/100
Wukong - Nerfed
Stats:
- Base move speed decreased to 340 from 345
- Base attack speed decreased to 0.680 from 0.711
LoL 12.17 Item Balance Changes
Guardian Angel
- Cost increased to 3000 from 2900
- Combine cost increased to 150 from 50
- AD increased to 45 from 40
Seeker's Armguard
- AP increased to 30 from 20
Stopwatch
- Cost increased to 750 from 650 (Note: Perfect Timing will still only contribute 250 gold towards a Stopwatch item)
Zhonya's Hourglass
- Cost increased to 3000 from 2600
- AP increased to 80 from 65
- Ability haste increased to 15 from 10
LoL 12.17 Bugfixes & QoL Changes
QoL Updates
- Addressed some high variation between the milestones for some Starter Series Eternals (e.g. the “Epic Monsters Killed” milestone 1 would require Amumu to kill 9, Diana to kill 3, and Fiddlesticks to kill 2). Values to reach this and other milestones have been updated to be more uniform across champions. (Note: this was updated in patch 12.16, but was not included in the patch notes.)
- Updated tooltips on champions that can swap between melee and ranged forms (e.g. Jayce or Nidalee) so that they now dynamically update values based on whether they are in melee or ranged form.
Bugfixes
- Fixed a bug that would cause the cursor to move erratically when using smart pings.
- Fixed a bug that caused the Ancient Grudge Buff (which reduces damage done to subsequent drakes) to not grant damage reduction for every Drake slain if the Drakes were Hextech ones.
- Fixed a bug that caused Draven’s R execute passive to still execute enemies through spellshields.
- Fixed a bug where Rift Herald’s spawn animation would interrupt the knockback from Poppy’s R.
- Fixed a bug that caused Ornn’s item upgrades to be lost if the teammate he was upgrading died during the channel.
- Fixed a bug that caused Sejuani’s E to proc Tear of the Goddess stacks when a melee champion would walk near her.
- Fixed a bug that removed Fizz’s E range indicator to not show after his VFX update.
- Fixed a bug that caused Zeri’s Q animation to leave vision for longer than intended when last hitting minions.
- Fixed a bug that caused Pyke’ R to go on cooldown if the enemy was killed by another ally.
- Fixed a bug where champions could cast Flash while Charmed if they casted Heal or Ghost.
- Fixed a bug where the Treasure Hunter rune would play Draven’s passive sound effects if there was a Draven present in the game.
- Fixed a bug where executing to the Fountain or minions would progress the “Free Ticket to Base” challenge.
- Fixed a bug where Sion’s Zombie form would count as an additional kill or assist for certain challenges.
- Fixed a bug where Sett’s ultimate would disable opponent’s Hexflash and Flash for the remainder of the game.
- Fixed a bug that would cause Unleashed Teleport’s cooldown to display incorrectly on the scoreboard once it has transformed.
- Fixed a bug where using certain abilities after casting Flash would disable Hexflash and Flash.
- Fixed a bug that gave Elder Dragon the normal Drake roar as opposed to his own, special, Elder roar.
