Here’s where we’ll explain everything that’s changing and being added with League of Legends Patch 12.2.
LoL Patch 12.2 has now arrived on live servers, giving all players the chance to try out the MOBA’s newest champion, alongside a set of new cosmetics and its latest balance changes.
A look at its patch notes reveals its release date alongside the addition of several skins from the Porcelain, Firecracker, Crystal Rose, and Withered Rose lines.
Riot Games pushes out updates for its popular MOBA at a steady rate, which is why its patch schedule is necessary to keep track of when the next one’s due out. The LoL Patch 12.2 release date is set for Thursday, January 20, which is when the changes that make it through testing hit live servers.
League of Legends Patch 12.2
League 12.2 kicks off 2022 with a massive amount of new skins. Players can grab as many as 15 new looks for existing champions, belonging to multiple different lines.
On the PBE, players can try out Crystal Rose Akshan (1350 RP), Crystal Rose Janna (1350 RP), Withered Rose Elise (1350 RP), Withered Rose Zeri (1350 RP), Firecracker Sett, Firecracker Teemo, Firecracker Xin Zhao (1350 RP), Firecracker Tristana, Firecracker Diana, Porcelain Protector Ezreal (1820 RP), Porcelain Amumu, Porcelain Lissandra (1350 RP), Porcelain Kindred, Porcelain Lux, Porcelain Lux Prestige Edition, and Brave Phoenix Xayah Prestige Edition.
The LoL 12.2 maintenance schedule is always revealed closer to launch. Usually, it takes about 3 hours for patches to be deployed across different regions. Checking our League of Legends Server Status article is a good way to keep yourself informed on server downtime caused by patch deployment or other reasons.

League 12.2 also introduces Zeri, the Spark of Zaun, as the MOBA’s newest champion. You can already check out her bio, as spotted by Surrender at 20, and abilities, for a better sense of how she fits into the game in terms of lore and mechanics.

Abilities
Living Battery (Passive):
- Zeri gains Move Speed whenever she receives a shield. When she damages an enemy shield she absorbs its energy, shielding herself.
Burst Fire (Q):
- Passive: Zeri's basic attack deals magic damage, scales with AP, and is treated as an ability. Moving and casting Burst Fire stores up energy in Zeri's Sparkpack. When fully charged, her next basic attack will slow and deal bonus damage.
- Active: Burst Fire shoots a burst of 7 rounds that deal physical damage to the first enemy hit.
Burst Fire scales with AD and is treated like an attack, with the first round applying on-hit effects. Its cooldown matches Zeri’s basic attack timer.
Ultrashock Laser (W):
- Zeri fires an electric pulse that slows and damages the first enemy hit. If the pulse hits a wall it fires a long range laser from the point of impact.
Spark Surge (E):
- Zeri dashes a short distance and energizes her next 3 casts of Burst Fire, causing them to pierce through enemies. She will vault over or grind along any terrain she dashes into, depending on the angle. Hitting a champion with an attack or ability reduces Spark Surge’s cooldown.
Lightning Crash (R):
- Zeri discharges a nova of electricity, damaging nearby enemies, and overcharges herself for a moderate duration. While overcharged, Zeri gains increased damage, Attack Speed, and Move Speed. Attacking enemy champions refreshes the overcharge duration and adds another stack of Move Speed. While overcharged, Burst Fire's damage concentrates into a faster triple shot that chains lightning between enemies.
Vayne is set to receive a visual effects update “mainly focused on cleaning up and modernizing her kit, removing some of the old noise that was present.” This video highlights upcoming changes to her spell effects, although the developer did note that it is a smaller scale update.
Sona’s visuals are also getting improvements, including complete overhauls to a handful of her skins.
As far as balance changes go, the first few ones bring tweaks to Rengar and Tahm Kench that didn’t make it in patch 12.1. Janna is set to receive a number of different tweaks to her abilities.
The patch 12.2 preview is now live, showcasing more of the changes coming later in January.
We expect more to come over the coming weeks, so make sure you check back regularly to not miss out on any buffs and nerfs your favorite champion might receive when the LoL 12.2 Patch hits live servers.
