Publisher and developer Riot Games today unveiled the Soul Fighter, a cross-game summer event, that gives players of four of its Runeterra titles a host of new content, activities, and cosmetics to participate in and pursue.
The Soul Fighter event’s start and end dates give us six whole weeks’ worth of time during which we can explore Riot’s tribute to the fighting game genre, inspired by “the deep emotional resonance and unique character moments from fighting games and anime tournament arcs.”
Soul Fighter Event Start and End Dates
Set in an alternate universe and hosted by the mysterious God’s Eye, the event is centered around the Tournament of Souls, the stage upon which competitors show off their combat abilities.
Whether you’re a fan of League of Legends, Wild Rift, Teamfight Tactics, or Legends of Runeterra or frequently jump from one title to the other, the Soul Fighter event has locked down its start date to Thursday, July 20. Its end date is set to occur on Monday, August 28.
- Soul Fighter event start date: July 20, 2023
- Soul Fighter event end date: August 28, 2023
League of Legends Soul Fighter Event
LoL is getting a new game mode that pits four teams of two players against each other in rotating combat rounds. “After each round of combat, they will power up with unique Augments until only one team is left standing,” the publisher explains.
“Combat takes place on four different battlefields which vary in size, terrain density, and theme. Champions from the Soul Fighter universe will make occasional Cameo appearances in matches to either players’ benefit or detriment.”
The popular MOBA’s roster is set to grow with new champion Naafiri, the Hound of a Hundred Bites, while 12 new Soul Fighter skins give existing members of the roster – like Samira, Pyke, and Jhin – new looks.
The Soul Fighter 2023 Pass will also be available during the event, while the exclusive Tournament of Souls in-client metagame experience brings a style-rating focused combo-battler to the MOBA.
Taking on the role of Samira, you gain reputation by playing games of LoL, enabling you to face new opponents and unlock new abilities.
“The objective of the tournament is to defeat all ten opponent champions and become its new champion. Players can claim rewards after each victory and can unlock the Story and Expert difficulty levels, each with differing levels of challenge for players of all levels of skill and time commitment.”
Teamfight Tactics Soul Fighter Event
Between the Soul Fighter event’s start and end dates, Teamfight Tactics players can try out the new two-phase game mode Soul Brawl.
During the Training phase, you “compete for Soul Power that will strengthen their Soul Crown and provide additional loot options,” while the Tournament phase is where “players will be eliminated in a best-of-three bracket tournament.”
Two new Tacticians, the Tournament of Souls Arena, alongside the Soul Fighter Event Pass bring new rewards to pursue as you play the autobattler.
Then, the exclusive in-client narrative experience The Choncc Dome sees “Champions and Tacticians team up to prepare for the Tournament of Souls.”
League of Legends: Wild Rift Soul Fighter Event
The Soul Fighter event brings Tag Duel as a new game mode for League of Legends: Wild Rift. In it, players face off against each other in one-on-one combat.
“Each player will select three champions before entering combat, which can be seamlessly swapped between when off cooldown, leading to all sorts of combos previously only possible with teammates. The first player to reach four kills will emerge victorious,” the publisher notes.
Nilah, the Joy Unbound is joining the mobile game’s roster, while six new Soul Fighter skins, and the Soul Fighter Event Pass bring new goodies to purchase and pursue.
Its exclusive in-game narrative experience focuses on “an original story set within the world of Soul Fighter, which is primarily told through the eyes of Draven and Yasuo as they battle in the Tournament of Souls and venture into the Lands Beyond.”
Built as a visual novel, it also features minigame combat that tests yourspeed and accuracy, by playing matches of Wild Rift.
“By progressing through the event, players will be rewarded with tokens, which can be spent on various items in the event shop, and unlock Arcade Mode. In Arcane Mode, players will get to play through a series of minigames as their favorite Soul Fighter champion, earn an exclusive emote, and more.”
Legends of Runeterra Soul Fighter Event
Legends of Runeterra’s Soul Fighter event is a bit leaner, introducing a new event pass, eight new skins, alongside new emotes and cardbacks.
Between August 1 to August 28, Riot will contribute 20% of proceeds from the Soul Fighter Samira skin, the Soul Fighter Event Pass, as well as related bundle sales in LoL to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund.
The Soul Fighter event’s start and end dates alongside the content it introduces promise plenty to do during summer for fans of Riot Games’ four participating titles.
