Dontnod and Square Enix release The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit today, a free episode in the Life Is Strange universe that will set up events in Life Is Strange 2 - and having played it, the game seems to suggest that previous series protagonists Max and Chloe may not feature in Life Is Strange 2.
Captain Spirit revolves around Chris, a young boy with a wild imagination. We won't spoil the events of the game (it's free and it's great, so you really have no excuse not to try it), but it does clearly setup some story threads and characters for the Life Is Strange - and Max and Chloe seem to be absent.
Anyone who's played the first Life Is Strange knows that Max's story is pretty wrapped up by the end, and the follow-up series Before The Storm covers Chloe's story before the game - so there is really nothing new to say by keeping them as protagonists in Life Is Strange 2.
The Captain Spirit episode, however, teases several characters who could be the new protagonist/s - or maybe the series will continue Chris's story directly, which is definitely just beginning in this episode and there is a lot more to find out about the boy.
We don't know for sure yet, and Square Enix are keeping things as a surprise for now, but we would not be shocked if Life Is Strange 2 has a new protagonist and does not feature Max or Chloe.
