Publisher Dragami Games has announced that a Lollipop Chainsaw remake is in development and slated to launch at some point in 2023.
The news was shared by producer Yoshimi Yasuda who confirmed that other members of the team which worked on the original Lollipop Chainsaw are also contributing to the freshly unveiled remake.
Lollipop Chainsaw Remake PC Release Date
The original game was a collaboration between Yasuda, game director Suda51, and movie director James Gunn, who wrote the script. Having launched in June 2012, the title gained a cult following and sold more than 1 million copies.
It follows the adventures of Juliet Starling, a cheerleader attempting to survive a zombie outbreak while accompanied by the disembodied head of her boyfriend and her trusty chainsaw.
As Yasuda explains, “various factors resulted in things making it so that fans can no longer easily play Lollipop Chainsaw, and it has been some time since players have not been able to access the game on current consoles.
“We, the original development staff on Lollipop Chainsaw, think of the game as very precious to us, and did not want to leave it in limbo, where players who want to play it cannot. As such, we purchased the Lollipop Chainsaw intellectual property from Kadokawa Games, and decided to develop a remake. We have already contacted Warner Bros. about development, and are being supported by them in this endeavor.”
Although the Lollipop Chainsaw remake will stay true to the spirit of the original, players will notice a handful of differences.
The current-gen consoles hardware has prompted “a more realistic approach to the graphics.” In addition, only a handful of licensed tracks from the original soundtrack will return.
The publisher has yet to confirm the platforms it’s targeting for Lollipop Chainsaw remake’s launch but we’re hoping it will also arrive on PC next year.
