Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was announced at The Game Awards last night, the third game in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance and X-Men Legends series. which hasn't had a new entry since the second MUA in 2009. But will we see a Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 PC version?
The game was announced for Nintendo Switch, but the previous games are all on PC, and console exclusive licensed games don't usually last very long. Will Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 come out on PC? Let's have a look at the evidence...
Will There Be a Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 PC Version?
The previous two Marvel Ultimate Alliance games took years to appear on PC, and only finally turned up in 2016 - they've sadly been delisted due to licensing issues, but anyone who bought them on PC can play them forever. That's what we want for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 - if it's a licensed console exclusive it'll be dead and gone within 3 years. See GoldenEye, X-Men Legends, most Superman games, Captain America: Super Soldier etc.
Unfortunately, the announcement trailer for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 makes it clear that it's a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Why? Because Nintendo are publishing it themselves, and presumably funding it. This means that, sadly, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 will not come out on PC.
It's a similar situation to Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4, which was directly funded and published by Sony - except that Sony have proven willing to let their exclusives come to PC, even if it's just via PlayStation Now.
Nintendo, on the other hand, are far more skittish about allowing their games on other systems. They've let GoldenEye die rather than allow it to be re-released, they've gone after ROM sites with a fervour, and make mad YouTube demands so people can't even watch gameplay videos of Nintendo titles now.
If Nintendo are publishing, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 PC will never happen, and probably won't be re-released on another Nintendo console either. Sorry folks. We're as sad as you are.
