It appears that Tempest Rising isn’t the only new real-time strategy game trying to fill the gap left by Command & Conquer. Misclick Games’ Mass Conflict: Ignition aims to stick closer to C&C: Generals, and so far, it looks like it’s got the juice where it counts.
The game’s official description is one of the most straightforward we’ve read in a while, with the devs promising an old-school RTS “inspired by the classics of yore.” However, they’re also promising “new and original gameplay mechanics” that add something new to the tried-and-tested formula of C&C: Generals and its Zero Hour expansion pack.
You can also head over to Misclick Games’ YouTube channel to watch a short (but intense) ‘early stage alpha’ gameplay teaser that looks straight from the early 2000s.
The game’s Steam page confirms several traditional features. The basics are all there, but it remains to be seen how Mass Conflict: Ignition will evolve over time. For now, it’s looking like an uncomplicated blast from the past first and foremost. You can read about the planned features, straight from the studio, below:
- Play one of three unique and asymmetrical factions, with more to come.
- Enjoy fast-paced combat, with base building, building garrisons, tech structures and support powers.
- Dive into a Single-Player Campaign set in a modern, yet near-future setting.
- Compete in Skirmish VS AI or against other players online.
- Engage in a series of Co-Op modes with other players.
- Create new maps and mods with our World Editor.
If you like what you’re seeing and reading, you can join the game’s official Discord server, as the studio claims that Mass Conflict: Ignition is being co-developed “with involvement of our community and players.” When it comes to this type of nostalgic project, that’s usually good news, but it also means it might be a while before the game hits early access or a 1.0 release goes public.
As it stands, Mass Conflict is simply making itself known and grabbing a spot in the increasingly crowded indie RTS market.
