2022 has had its share of surprises, but few could predict that Remedy Entertainment was about to announce, in early April, that it was working on a remake of Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. Unsurprisingly, the news was well received by fans eager to play modernized versions of the classic action games, who were quick to wonder what their release date might be.
Published by Rockstar Games, the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake is actually a single package that contains both titles. In early April, when it was announced, it was still in the concept development stage, which very likely means that we won’t be hearing about a release date in the near future.
Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake Release Date
According to the developer, the project benefits from a budget that is “in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production,” which is great news, considering the studio’s previous output.
It’s difficult to even estimate when we could expect Max Payne 1 & 2 remake’s release date to occur, but our guess is that it’s unlikely for it to see the light of day before 2024.

Details surrounding the project as a whole have been scarce so far, which is understandable, given how early in development it is.
A remake, however, does imply more than just touching up the visuals, although that will certainly happen, considering how Remedy is using its proprietary Northlight engine for the games’ new versions.
Broadly speaking, we expect the titles to feature the classic versions’ iconic neo-noir atmosphere, and harrowing narrative while focusing on third-person action that puts Max’s bullet-time abilities at the center.

While Remedy does have an exclusivity agreement with Epic, Rockstar Games is publishing the remake, which could see it arriving on all storefronts, including Rockstar’s own, as well as a time exclusive on the latter.
More details about its release date should be shared over the coming months, and we’ll update this article as soon as we learn more on the matter.
