Desperados 3 developer Mimimi Games has announced that it will self-publish its next game, known internally as Codename Süßkartoffel.
Codename Süßkartoffel will be Mimimi Games’ third real-time tactics game, and the first major release that the studio self-publishes.
“We are going to be able to take full control of every creative and business aspect of game development and publishing. We will get to choose how to distribute our resources and assets. We will be able to decide for ourselves what we want to talk about regarding Codename Süßkartoffel and when.” the developer wrote in a post discussing its future.

Süßkartoffel (which translates to Sweet Potato) won’t, however, be out for “a few years” and will also officially launch under a different name.
That probably also dashes any hopes of controlling squads of sentient potatoes, which is a shame.
The Munich-based studio has secured funding from an “undisclosed and independent investor” but will also receive financial support from other sources, being one of the first developers to benefit from Germany’s official games industry grant program.
It is also looking to grow its team and is currently hiring, more details being available in the blog post linked at the top of this article.
Mimimi Games became popular after launching Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun in partnership with publisher Daedalic Entertainment and reigniting interest in the real-time tactics genre, as popularized by games like Commandos and Desperados.
Earlier this year, it was also responsible for the third entry in the Desperados series, now published by THQ Nordic.
If you haven’t given it a shot yet, we found Desperados III to be perfect if you’re looking to get introduced to the real-time tactics genre while also having plenty to offer veterans.
