Monster Hunter Rise landed on Nintendo Switch in early 2021 to much acclaim. Set in a new location and pitting hunters against new monsters, the sixth mainline entry in the series also caught the eye of fans spoiled by Monster Hunter: World’s Steam version, leaving them wondering whether or not a potential PC release date might be in the cards.
Publisher and developer Capcom primarily focused on the game’s Switch version after launch, delivering expected updates that fixed issues and added new content. A Steam version was mentioned later on, but it wasn’t until September 2021 that we actually learned what Monster Hunter Rise’s PC release date would be. Here’s everything we know about the title, including details on its PC-specific improvements, gameplay, and more.
Monster Hunter Rise Steam Release Date
Capcom had its own segment in the Tokyo Games Show 2021, which was when it revealed that Monster Hunter Rise is coming to Steam on January 12, 2022.
Monster Hunter Rise Gameplay
Monster Hunter Rise sticks to the the core recipe of the series, focusing on hunting down monsters, which yield materials that you can use to craft better gear. Stronger monsters get introduced gradually, yielding better materials, building towards a grind that’s proven quite addictive time and time again.
Aside from new ones like the flame-breathing Aknosom and massive Magnamalo, the title also throws lots of familiar but equally deadly beasties your way.
It also boasts a renewed focus on mobility thanks to the Wirebug which lets you scale walls and get around the map faster. The rideable Palamute companion also helps increase your speed, also acting as a more aggressive alternative to the Palico, which itself returns.
You can choose between 14 different weapon types during your hunts, each with a move set and attack speed of its own. The Wirebug also helps you pull out special attacks specific to each weapon. On top of that, Wyvern Riding lets you take control of other monsters in the environment and dish out high damage.
Monster Hunter Rise also introduces a new quest type, The Rampage, which sees you defending Kamura Village from waves of attacking monsters.
Monster Hunter Rise PC Features
Monster Hunter Rise’s PC version arrives on Steam with a set of platform-specific improvements. These include 4K resolution, ultrawide monitor support, high-res textures, and unlocked framerates. The title’s controls are also optimized for keyboard and there’s also voice chat.
The post-launch content released up until the Nintendo Switch version’s update 3.6.1 will also be available on day one for PC players. This includes several collaborations, additional monsters, as well as a new ending.
