Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord may not be out yet, but modders sure seem eager to get started with TaleWorlds Entertainment’s long-awaited quasi-historical strategy RPG. There’s already a Tolkien mod in the making, and one concerning Silmarillion, at that.
Titled Silmarillion - Of Hurin, this total conversion mod for Bannerlord aims to recreate events, characters, and locations from the legendary Tolkien lore. Since Mount & Blade 2 isn’t released yet, the mod is currently in its early concept stages.
The original Mount & Blade’s modding scene proved to be particularly fertile, with talented people creating Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and even Dune and Star Wars mods for us to enjoy. Since the developer, TaleWorlds, seems to take pride in allowing players to modify their games, it’s to be expected that the same will go for Bannerlord, too.
Developers of Silmarillion - Of Hurin are established mod-makers, which is what makes this project particularly exciting. They’ve previously worked on a variety of Mount & Blade-related mods, such as Sevenheart and Necromancer. While we don’t know the full extent of upgrades that Bannerlord will feature over previous Mount & Blade releases, chances are they’ll give modders even more leeway for future work.
Of Hurin developers could very well make good use of that, though there’s no telling when it might come out. Bannerlord is currently salted for an Early Access release in March 2020. Mods might start getting released soon after.
