Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden, the RPG with XCOM-style combat from developers behind Hitman and Payday, has a release date of December 4th 2018. Publisher Funcom announced the game's release date at Gamescom, with a cute trailer you can see below.
The game is part of the Mutant series of tabletop RPGs, which Funcom acquired the rights to last year, and Mutant Year Zero itself was revealed in February. Developer The Bearded Ladies are new, but the studio includes talent from the likes of Io Interactive (Hitman) and Starbreeze (Payday). And the main characters include a pig man and "a crossbow-wielding, bipedal, and unusually sassy duck". We're sold already.
The game's available to pre-order now, which includes a Standard Edition ($34.99) and a Deluxe Edition ($54.99). A pre-order will get you a three-day early access, and the deluxe edition also has beta access. It also includes a wallpaper, digital artbook, digital soundtrack, and a digital copy of the Mutant Year Zero pen-and-paper RPG book.
Executive Producer Ulf Andersson at Bearded Ladies, who was the designer of the first Payday, says about Mutant Year Zero:
"It’s an unusual label for a game, but 'tactical adventure' really fits the bill, no duck pun intended. Our goal is to blend the deep and tactical combat of ‘XCOM’ with a branching storyline that unfolds as you explore overgrown forests and abandoned cities with your team of Mutants. Mixing that with real-time stealth gameplay gives you a unique way to approach or avoid combat situations you encounter while exploring."
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden will be out December 4th on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
