Is a new Splinter Cell game being revealed at the Game Awards this week? That's certainly what the tease by host Geoff Keighley seems to suggesting. It's been five years since Splinter Cell Blacklist, the most recent game in the stealth series, so we're really hoping this rumour is true.
Rumours and teases of a new Splinter Cell have been swirling for a long time now, helped by the recent appearance of Sam Fisher in Ghost Recon Wildlands. But will Fisher return at the Game Awards?
Game Awards host Geoff Keighley put together a "teaser/hype video" for the Game Awards and posted it on Twitter. The video mostly contained either games of 2018 or already announced future titles such as The Last of Us Part 2 and Death Stranding, but near the middle of the video (at the 0:53 point) viewers were surprised to see a shadowy Sam Fisher make a conspicuous appearance - despite not having a game since Blacklist and nothing announced yet.
Every year I really enjoy the creative process of personally editing a teaser/hype video for #TheGameAwards. Here's what I put together this year. It's not meant to tease, just celebrate how much this industry means to me. Hope you'll join us Thursday as we walk between worlds. pic.twitter.com/BaQ9aQT1pR

However, unfortunately the tweet itself seems to put a damper on those hopes for a new Splinter Cell appearing at the show, as Keighley makes it very clear that "it's not meant to tease," it's just a celebration of the industry as a whole. This seems to be Sam Fisher as he appeared in the teaser for the Ghost Recon event - which was this year.
While it's possible that it's a double-bluff, and this actually is a tease to Splinter Cell 7 getting revealed at the show, don't get your hopes up too much. The only time we may see those iconic goggles this month is in the remaster of Asterix & Obelix XXL 2...
