Crafting plays a big role in New World and tracking down the locations of resources like Iron Ore isn’t always easy, especially when you’re first setting out into the world.
If you fancy yourself a miner or want to get into smelting ore and crafting equipment, knowing where to look for New World’s Iron Veins is one of the first things you’ll need to do.
Before delving into how to find New World Iron Ore locations, we first need to talk about tools. Some games might let you punch resources out of the land but, if you’re looking to mine Iron Veins, you’ll need to equip yourself with a pickaxe.
You can easily craft one at the campfire on the beach when instructed to craft your skinning knife. Keep in mind that all basic tools require the same set of materials.
New World Iron Ore Locations
When you have a pickaxe equipped, you’ll need to head to regions depicted as Highlands on the map, as that’s where Iron Veins spawn in New World. If you open the map and zoom in, you’ll notice that different parts of the world are painted in different colors. On the left side, the Resource Locations button opens up a legend.
Highlands are painted with a darker shade of brown, the closest to your starting point being Eldergate, to the south of Windsward Hamlet. If you head there but don’t immediately find Iron Veins, they do seem to be much rarer than boulders, which you can mine for stome. This could be exacerbated by a higher number of players mining them at the moment. Once someone harvests a resource, it disappears for a while.
You’re more prone to find New World Iron Ore locations closer to the higher parts of the Highlands and their caves, from what we can tell. If none seem to be around, you can try returning later or setting off for a different part of the map, as Highlands are found across multiple regions. Just use your trusty map to spot the areas.
Iron Veins are distinctly black, as you can see in the screenshot above and harvesting them is as easy as pressing E and waiting for the animation to complete. You only get the Iron Ore at the end but, if you’re interrupted, the mining progress doesn’t seem to reset.
