UPDATE SEPTEMBER 29: New World continues to be the second most played game on Steam; player count peaks at 707,230 players.
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 28: As of 2 PM BST, New World’s player count has surpassed that of DOTA 2’s, peaking at over 500,000 concurrent users.
New World’s launch day player count has secured it a spot as the third most played game on Steam. The MMORPG drew the attention of lots of players during its beta tests and Aeternum doesn’t seem to have lost any of its appeal, despite the game’s recent delay.
New World’s servers will gradually open across the world over the course of today but, with EU leading the charge, its player count has already reached impressive numbers, resulting in queues of thousands of players looking to fight back the Corruption.
At the inital time of writing, New World’s player count sat at a whopping 349,064 concurrent users, according to website Steam Database. This placed the MMORPG just below CS:GO and DOTA 2 but above battle royale phenomenon PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, which is not bad company to keep.
As 2 PM BST rolled through, and servers in more regions went live, New World became the second most played game on Steam, overtaking DOTA 2 with a peak concurrent user count of 507,212.
New World went on to reach a peak of 707,230 concurrent players, holding on to its spot as the second most played game on Steam on September 29.
The anticipation surrounding Amazon Games’ latest title has been tangible for a while now and the number of concurrent players will likely grow. The game has also had its first post-launch maintenance which was, thankfully, short.
Lengthy queues haven’t stopped players from trying to set foot on Aeternum, but the real question is for how long New World will manage to keep this many players invested. If this is your first time playing the game, our guides on map size, Twitch drops, and crafting recipes should prove helpful.
