Set to bring players back to 681 BC, Field of Glory II: Rise of Persia is going to feature a rather underused civilisation/army in the grand scheme of things. Whereas the Roman civilisation gets showcased quite often in video games, the Persians haven't ever had nearly the presence to compare.
Doing their part to right this wrong, Matrix Games are getting ready to release Rise of Persia as a paid DLC for their tabletop-ish strategy title, and will thus give us the chance to witness the conquests of the Achaemenid Persians.
The expansion pack is - substantial - to say the least. It will come packed to the brim with no less than 12 new factions featuring 26 new units spread across 20 new army lists. There are 6 new Epic Battles to fight in, as well as 35 new Quick Battles.
Developers have also taken the time to expand their Custom Battles module, as well as the Sandbox Campaign module, which ought to ensure even more control over custom-built matches against the AI. If that's not your thing, Matrix have also added 4 new historical campaigns to play at your own behest.
Also important: Persians will focus on mixed unit squads - front-rank spearmen with back-rank archers, which will make for a curious twist on the regular combat mechanics. There's been no word on when will Rise of Persia be released just yet, but developers have promised to release the information soon.
