Paradox Interactive has appointed Mattias Lilja as its new Deputy CEO to help strengthen its “pipeline of projects for the future”.
The publisher did achieve a record-breaking year in terms of revenue. Unfortunately, there’s still cause for concern about the quality of game releases as we head into the final quarters of the year.
Millennia is its most recent release, with a mixed reception on Steam and an average rating of 67 on Metacritic.
Mattias is an important piece of the puzzle, says CEO Fredrik Wester
Lilja joined Paradox Interactive in 2009, where he has undertaken various key roles including Executive Producer, Head of Studio, EVP of Studios, and Chief Operating Officer. His most recent position was Chief of Staff for Paradox Interactive, overseeing HR, Talent Acquisition, and Communications — responsibilities that will persist in his new capacity within the company.
“My long-term focus is to strengthen our stable core business and deliver a strong pipeline of projects for the future,” said Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester.
“That requires us to continue building a solid operational foundation while intensifying strategic efforts. With his broad experience within both game and operational development, Mattias is an important piece of the puzzle in taking our next step as a company.” Wester concluded.
Wester said earlier in the year that the publisher was “unable to relax” even though it had recorded revenue highs.
“EBIT is at a level we are not happy with after a large write-down, and the quarter’s game releases have not held the quality we want. There is certainly potential to reach even higher.” Wester said.
Paradox Interactive is set to release three games this year, starting with Foundry, followed by Life by You in June. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will follow that, hopefully making its debut before the year ends.
