The Path of Exile exception error occurs in a variety of different scenarios and, from the looks of it is related to the way the game uses GPUs.
In the worst of cases the exception error results in a crash that, if you’re in the process of mapping, can mean losing a good chunk of progress. Sadly, there’s no surefire way to fix the issue, although people have found a couple of workarounds that made it go away for a, longer or shorter, period of time.
The most widespread makeshit fix to the Path of Exile exception error is actually repairing the game’s files. On Steam, that means verifying the files by right clicking on the game in your library, selecting properties, moving to the local files tab and clicking on the verify the integrity of game files option. If you’re using the game’s own launcher, you’ll have to head to your Windows Control Panel, and try uninstalling the game from there. That will prompt open a window with three options, one of which is “repair”.
Other fixes for the Path of Exile exception error include double checking that the game isn’t defaulting to your integrated graphics card, or switching to a different version of DirectX. As a last resort, reinstalling the game could also prove to be a solution, although some people do report that not working. While neither of these fixes are guaranteed to completely rid you of the error, they’re good points to being prior to dipping into the forums.
