Despite the rough waters in which publisher Starbreeze found itself a few years ago, Payday 2 continues to draw in a consistent number of players that take on the challenge of its co-op heists. It’s not surprising, then, to see questions about crossplay even eight years after launch.
But, while Payday 2 cross-platform support would contribute to maintaining the game’s matchmaking healthy, it looks rather unlikely to arrive at some point in the future. Here’s why we think that to be the case.
Payday 2 development resumed back in October 2019, which was great news for its players. But a few months later, in December, the publisher revealed that parity between the game’s PC and console versions would no longer be possible.
Aside from disparity potentially making it difficult to introduce Payday 2 crossplay, Payday 3 was also announced earlier this year.
Although its 2023 release date remains far away, a new entry in the series likely demands a large amount of resources, making for another reason why Payday 2 cross-platform support may never arrive.
We will keep an eye out and update this article as soon as we learn anything new about Payday 2 crossplay. Currently, however, you’ll only be able to play alongside others on your platform of choice.
