Gamescom 2019 brought good tidings for trading sim fans, as Port Royale 4 was officially unveiled by publisher Kalypso Media during last night’s Opening Night Live event.
Taking players back to the 17th century, and tasking them with building a small settlement into a profitable trading city, Port Royale will, however, not feature a multiplayer component, unlike its predecessor.
Port Royale 4 Multiplayer
Responding to a fan asking in a Steam discussions thread about the lack of multiplayer in Port Royale 4, a Kalypso Media community manager clarified why the team at Gaming Minds decided to focus all their resources into the single player component.
“As the previous part proved of having just a minority of players actually making use of the multiplayer mode, whereas the majority is just focusing and purely playing the singleplayer part of the game, we wanted to purely focus all our resources on a great singleplayer experience in order to make Port Royale 4 a big improvement.”, they said.
Port Royale 4 will feature no less than four single player campaigns, each focused on one of the four playable colonial powers. Players will help Spain, England, France and the Netherlands as they battle to make it to the top of the influence ladder in the Carribean.
Port Royale 4 is currently scheduled to release in Q3 2020 on PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. For more information, check out our article on everthing we know about Port Royale 4.
