What’s the Project Zomboid Update B42 release date? It’s been a while since the last major blog post about Project Zomboid update B42 from developer The Indie Stone, but we’ve just learned a bunch of new exciting details on several big reworks coming our way thanks to an extensive development update via the Steam forums.
Project Zomboid’s update B42 is a meaty one, with features such as a much richer late-game, indefinite multiplayer servers, and a profound graphical overhaul of the scenery.
Project Zomboid B42 Update Release Date
The latest update from The Indie Stone asks diehard Project Zomboid players to remain patient for a while longer though, as the team is now figuring out how to get a bunch of the good stuff to players faster while some of the deeper work continues to be polished before being released into the wild.
“Though we haven’t worked out exactly what will be in the first iteration, there’ll still be a lot of new crafting for people to sink their teeth into, from stuff like the blacksmithing, pottery, woodworking, food preservation, extra fluid and workstation mechanics, new crafting system and much more,” the developer explained while also letting players know the current build is very unstable, making the release not imminent.
- Expected Project Zomboid B42 Release Date: Fall 2024
That said, “with this readjustment of our plans the pile of stuff that needs to be done before release has gotten a lot shorter,” so the overall outcome should be positive for players who’ve been waiting for B42 for a long time.
The new features and reworks that have been highlighted by The Indie Stone as coming sooner rather than later are the following:
- Muld glow-up: “A significant lick of paint” for the map, making the locations far more detailed while retaining the cartoonish, Sims-like look.
- Lighting glow-up: Enclosed rooms are getting lighting improvements, and lights found outdoors will also behave differently. Overall, general light propagation is on its way to being a lot more realistic.
- Newspapers and lore improvements: A number of objects found in the world are getting improvements, and new chunks of lore will be added to newspapers, flyers, and broadcasts. This is being described as a “side project”, but the devs are also paying attention to fleshing out the world of Project Zomboid.
- MP updates: Servers are getting new customization options, improved anti-cheat settings, interfaces for admins and moderators, and a ‘war manager’ role that will help “govern conflict between rival groups on the map.”
- Improved loot art: The game’s art department has been “pumping out” more items to give the zeds and their homes “more personality.” A bunch of new loot variants will be introduced into the pool.
