Psychonauts 2 offers a handful of side quests you can pursue when you’re not diving deep into people’s minds. One of them requires Raz to find the location of a rare fungus at Lili’s behest. You’re given vague directions when you pick up the side quest but, if you’re unsure where to look or just want to quickly complete it, this guide has got you covered.
First, make sure that you’ve progressed through the main story enough to have access to the Time Bubble ability. To reach the location of the rare fungus that’s caught Lili’s attention, you’ll actually need to head into the Questionable Area, where Raz’s family has parked their circus, and towards the large waterfall.
Use the nearby stones to reach the spot where the logs begin to climb vertically, hit one with Time Bubble to get them to slow down, and climb on top. It may take you a couple of tries to nail the timing but, once you’re going up, look carefully, and you’ll spot a cave entrance behind the waterfall. The purple light inside will give it away.
Jump off the log and head into the cave. Use the platform to get up to the giant purple mushroom in front of you, interact with it, and head back to Lili. That’s the quick way of reaching the rare fungus location in Psychonauts 2.
If you’re having trouble nailing the timing for the logs, there’s another way to get Lili her desired rare fungus. Head over to Fierro’s Funicular and you’ll notice it’s not working. Near its motor, you’ll see a cog that you can pick up using Telekinesis.
Slap it onto one of the three available slots on the motor. The second cog is found leaning against a rock, to the right of the motor, while the third is near the entrance to the first small tunnel at the bottom of the rails, on the left side.
Once they’re back in place, Fierro’s Funicular will start moving. Ride it to the top, take the wooden path to the right, and jump over the first gap. Do the same with the second gap, then release the trapeze with a psi-blast and use it to get to the other side. Jump another gap and you’ll find yourself on a circular platform facing the waterfall.
Here, you have to repeat the trick above and slow down a log using Time Bubble, get on top of it, and enter the cave behind the waterfall, which is also right in front of you. Inside, you need to interact with the large, purple mushroom. This approach takes longer but makes it much easier to jump on the log. Head back to Lili to complete the quest.
