After a strong launch in 2023, Railway Empire 2 has continued to grow steadily with new DLC packs that have ranged from must-haves to slightly forgettable bloat. Now, we’ve learned that our trains will be going to Italia next with the ‘Bella Italia’ DLC.
The January 28 announcement confirmed that a new content pack would follow the pattern established by past paid additions to the base game, featuring “the scenic backdrop of Italy” plus “content including Italian locomotives, immersive gameplay scenarios, and regional specific goods.” It’ll arrive on February 25 to PC, PS4/5, and Xbox consoles, priced at $10,99 like the India DLC (our favorite so far). Watch out for a 10% discount at launch too.
Per the press release shared alongside the announcement: “Bella Italia puts players in the conductor’s seat as they navigate the wondrous Italian landscapes and take on the challenges of a nation in recovery. Railway construction can accommodate the needs of tourism, supply goods to rebuild after the devastating war, and help you make a name for yourself among La Familia – are you up to the task?”
The featured Italian locations include Rome, Sicily, Milano, and even some Tuscan landscapes. Eighth new Italian locomotives are mentioned, but we’ve received only confirmation of the Mastodonte dei Giovi and Signorine FS Class 640 II so far. The scenarios will be fully voiced once again, and they’ll include “new challenges” and “varied approaches” that will try to separate them from what players have previously experienced with Railway Empire 2. Of course, “new jingles and tracks” will also add to the Mediterranean ambiance.
As usual – and unless we’re shown otherwise – we’re expecting the developer Gaming Minds Studios and publisher Kalypso Media to release more content packs in the future. As it stands, Railway Empire 2 has received three mid-sized DLCs: Journey to the East, High Voltage, and India.
