Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was arguably one of 2021’s most anticipated PS5 titles, and possibly one massive dimension-hopping stress test for the console’s advanced SSD technology.
Its rich, colorful locations and varied gameplay have made a case for it long before reviews started rolling in, which is why many of us have been wondering about a potential PC release date.
The franchise has never had a direct PC port previously, and “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart” did not debut on PC when it was launched on PS5. The earlier games can be accessed via PlayStation Now, which currently serves as the nearest equivalent to a PC version.
Will Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Release on PC?
Although it went for years without one, Sony has now confirmed that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s PC release date has been locked down to July 26, 2023.
This, once again, showcases the company’s increased willingness to bring more PS5 exclusives to PC. The title is coming to both Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The PC version will come with a number of improvements and features, including DirectStorage 1.2 and GPU decompression.
“To enable quick loading and instant transition between dimensions, the game needs to be able to load assets quickly. DirectStorage ensures quick loading times, and GPU decompression is used at high graphics settings to stream assets in the background while playing. Traditionally, this decompression is handled by the CPU, but at a certain point, there is an advantage to letting the GPU handle this, as this enables a higher bandwidth for streaming assets from storage to the graphics card. We use this to quickly load high-quality textures and environments with a high level of detail.” explained Richard van der Laan, Senior Lead Programmer at Nixxes Software on the PS Blog.

In an interview from May 2023 with Famitsu, translated by ResetEra, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan suggested that, while PC ports remain part of the company’s strategy, they may continue to launch years after the PS5 versions.
“We also fully understand the importance of PS5 exclusive titles. As I mentioned earlier, PlayStation Studios’ main responsibility is to have people enjoy the game experience using the latest PS. We are increasing the number of PS5-exclusive titles and staggering the release of the PC version,” Ryan said.
“I often have the opportunity to ask game fans for their opinions, and when I ask them about the time lag, they say that selling the PC version two or three years after the release of the PS version is accepted favorably.”
