Keeping track of unit movement can be one of the more daunting aspects of real-time strategy games, and if you find yourself struggling with it, Project 37 might be right up your alley.
Prioritizing ease of control, the title features what developer Cheese Wheel Industries calls an “unique lane-based movement system” that helps automate unit movement.
Project 37 Lane-Based Movement
This shifts our responsibility to building the right types of troops, as they seemingly “figure out where to go” on their own.
It all sounds a bit strange, coming from traditional RTS, where selecting and moving your units to the right place at the right time plays a key role, but Project 37 still gives us plenty to think about through its multi-front battles.
Its decently large roster of units includes stuff flamethrower soldiers, mech hounds, humble riflemen, light tanks, helicopters, attack planes, and even battleships that, according to a gif on its Steam page, we can somehow plop right in the middle of the enemy base, even if it is on land.
A sizeable tech tree then allows us to upgrade resource and unit veterancy gains, add extra units to abilities like paradrop, and more.
To serve a welcome dose of nostalgia, the game also relies on aesthetics that remind of Westwood’s Command and Conquer series.
If all that sounds great, and you can look past a missing release window alongside AI voiceovers for mission briefings and various in-game prompts, you can give Project 37 a shot by downloading its demo from Steam.
