League of Legends developer Riot Games has unveiled Riot Forge, a publishing arm that will focus on delivering third-party developed, “completable” games using their popular IP.
Riot Forge currently has “multiple” League of Legends titles in development, the first of which will be announced during The Game Awards on December 12.
The main reason behind Riot Forge and the decision to work with independent studios on single-player, narrative-driven games, comes from how they’re a better platform for telling stories.
Over the years, League of Legends lore has grown well past a few details part of individual bios, but Riot Games doesn’t see its online competitive MOBA as the ideal platform to expand upon its lore.
“Throughout the journey, we’ll provide any support from QA, localization, voice-overs, research, marketing, and more, to help get the game into the hands of players and deliver an experience any League fan or otherwise will appreciate and enjoy.”, Riot Forge says on its website.
Riot Forge games will make their way to “PC, Console and Mobile”, however the publisher has stressed that “not every game will be released on all platforms”.
The announcement of multiple single-player League of Legends games being in development comes after Riot Games unveiled several projects of its own earlier this year.
We’ll learn more about the first Riot Forge League of Legends title and its developer during this year’s The Game Awards, which go live on December 12, at 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT or December 13 at 1:30 AM GMT.
