Third-person roguelike Risk of Rain 2 will receive one more content update before development will shift to paid expansions.
Developer Hopoo Games has revealed that it plans to use this final pre-expansion Risk of Rain 2 content update to add the elements that it had to cut during the game’s stint in Early Access.
This includes the Grandparent boss meant for the Sky Meadows area, various lore entries, bug fixes, and getting closer to all heroes having the same number of skill variants.
Risk of Rain 2 Final Content Update And Paid Expansions
The developer didn’t share any release date for Risk of Rain 2’s final content update while saying that it “will most likely look a bit different than the other CU’s we’ve had during Early Access”.
Afterward, the focus will move to Risk of Rain 2’s paid expansions, although free updates will continue to accompany them.
“The goal for Expansions is that they would be multiple Content Updates in size, and would occur only 1-2 times a year. These Expansions will most likely be themed - for example, we could have a “Void Expansion” or an “Imp Expansion” - with new content built around that theme. Quality of life, bug fixes, and balance changes will still be free as patches to the base game.” reads the post delving into RoR2’s future plans.
The developer also expressed its wishes to add mod support at some point further down the line, pledging to support the modders behind the already vast library of Risk of Rain 2 mods in the meantime.
Risk of Rain 2 is also headed to Stadia “soon”, where it will launch with the Sundered Grove Bonus map. You can also get the game on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
