The Roblox Error Code 279 is one of the more frequently encountered issues when trying to connect to the online game platform.

Roblox Error Code 279 Fix
You’ll know you’re bumping into this particualr Roblox error when encountering the following text: “Failed to connect to the Game. (ID=17: Connection attempt failed.) (Error Code: 279.)”.
The Roblox help page lists it as a general connection problem, suggesting a few approaches to fixing it.
To begin, it’s worth checking if your internet isn’t having a slow spell. From there, make sure that Roblox is allowed through your firewall. If any restrictions are in place, they’re likely the cause of Error Code 279.
Another Roblox Error Code 279 suggested fix involves making sure that all the ports in the UDP 49152 - 65535 range are open.
Ad blockers and browser extensions can also be the cause of connection errors, so consider disabling them before your Roblox session.
It’s also worth checking if you’re running a Roblox supported browser and if it’s updated to the latest version.
If you’re playing on a wireless connection, try switching to a wired connection, as the latter tends to be more stable.
Two more potential Roblox Error Code 279 fixes involve reinstalling the game and, prior to that, resetting your internet options by going through the following steps:
- Open Internet Explorer (this browser specifically)
- Open the gear icon > Internet options
- Open the Advanced tab
- Click the Reset button
- Close Internet Explorer
- Try playing again
If neither of these fixes gets rid of Roblox’s Error Code 279, the issue might have to do with Roblox Corporation’s servers, in which case you can only wait for a fix from the developer’s end.
Roblox is now available on PC, Xbox One and mobile.
