Developer Volition kicked off its stream celebrating the 11th anniversary of Saints Row 2 with some great news for players still looking for a decent PC port after all this time.
Studio Director Jim Boone revealed that “after a long period of time”, the studio is now in possession of the Saints Row 2 source code and will proceed with fixing the game’s PC port.
Saints Row 2 PC Port Source Code
Following the announcement that the Saints Row 2 PC port is finally getting fixed, Senior Community Developer Mike Watson went a bit into the history behind this decision. He mentioned having floated the idea six and a half years ago to the studio’s programming director.
He continued by saying that, with the source code obtained, the efforts to fix the Saints Row 2 PC port will focus on four areas: performance, stability, integrating Steam networking to make co-op work again, and adding the DLC that was previously only released on consoles.
A two-man team, composed of Mike Watson and Thomas Jepp, will handle fixing the Saints Row 2 PC port. The effort has been described as “outside office hours-style stuff”, to clarify that the studio is fully dedicated to the new Saints Row title currently in development.
The original Saints Row 2 PC port was handled by CD Projekt.
You can watch the full discussion over on Volition’s Twitch channel. The announcement itself takes place at around the 28:30 mark, shortly after the introductions.
